ISLAMABAD: ICC (International Cricket Council) on Wednesday named living Legend, “BOOM BOOM Afridi” as Pakistan’s Champion ambassador for the Champions Trophy, scheduled to be staged in England and Wales from June 1st to 18th.

“The Champions Trophy is a tournament Pakistan has never won. It is in a tough group alongside India, South Afridi and Sri Lanka, but instead of being overawed by the sides ranked above it, Pakistan should keep faith in its abilities and try to enjoy every time they take the field.” Said Afridi.

“Pakistan has never won the Champions Trophy, but it is the only event out of ICC’s two events in which Pakistan has beaten India a few times”, he said previously.

The ICC has also announced 7 other big players as Champion Ambassadors for the Champions Trophy.

The seven include Bangladesh’s Habibul Basha, Ian Bell from England, Shane Bond of New Zealand, Australia from Mike Hussey, India from Harbhajan Singh, Kumar Sangakara from Sri Lanka, and Graeme Smith from South Africa.

The eight ambassadors have played a total of 1,774 ODIs, scoring 51,906 runs with 48 centuries, and 828 wickets.

In addition to this, the eight cricketers will be part of a strong ICC editorial team and will provide match previews and match analysis through exclusive columns which will be available on the ICC website.
