1st
Inning
Ahmed Shehzad and Fakhar Zaman opened the inning for Pakistan.
The star of Peshawar, Zaman, couldn’t open an account and fell for Gamage
scoring 11 off 13 deliveries. The other opener who has consistently failed in
his last 18 ODIs scored another low score of 8 from 17 deliveries. One by one
Pakistan’s top and mid order was gone. Mohammad Hafeez also fell short on
Gamage’s bowling, he managed to score 8 off 11 deliveries. Malik, the Maalik of
first ODI came along with high expectations and was settling in pretty well.
Unfortunately he couldn’t handle the pressure and got out to Parera. He scored
11 off 15 deliveries.
Next in, The Skipper, Sarfraz came to bat, scored 5 from 14
and was back to the pavilion falling to Parera. Next came Imad, scored a low 10
from 26 deliveries and got out.
Babar Azam who came one-down scored another top-notch ton off
just 130 deliveries. Shadab Khan also played a promising inning scoring his
maiden ODI 50 off just 62 deliveries. Hasan Ali struck a six and took a single
before getting out. Next in was Rumman, gone, golden duck.
Gamage took the most wickets, 4, and Babar did the most
damage to Lankan Bowling, scoring 101 to his name. Pakistan posted a miracle
target off 219 after the batting collapse.
2nd
Inning
Dickwella and Tharanga opened for Sri Lanka. First to return
was Dickwella scoring 3 off 7 deliveries. He got out against Junaid Khan. A
long black-out struck after this first wicket as neither were the Lankas
scoring any runs, nor were the Pakistani’s taking any wickets. Perhaps it were
Hasan Ali who broke the blackout and got Kusal Mendis, second time in the two
games. I hope Mendis won’t mock Hasan again. The other opener Tharanga was
dropped by Shadab Khan on extra cover. He was dropped twice after.
The Lankan captain kept scoring and was in no mood to leave,
but his partner on the other hand, Lahiru Thirmanne was LBW’d to Malik scoring
12 off 34 deliveries. Young Leggie, Shadab took 3 quickfire wickets of
Chandimal Sirwardana, and Dhananjaya, and gave hopes to Pakistan. Hafeez also
took a much-needed wicket of Thisara Parers, who managed to score 7 off 5
deliveries.
Again the match was turned and the Lankans were sensing a win
after a brilliant 50 run partnership between the Lankan Skipper and Vandersay.
Thank Rumman Raees for taking that all important wicket and bringing the game
back to a 50-50. Jefferey Vandersay was caught out on 22 from 55 deliveries.
Soon another wicket fell. The victim of this run-out was Tharanga Lakmal
scoring 1 off 2 delivereis.
Upul Tharanga was unbeaten with a beautiful knock off 112,
and so was Shadab Khan with 3 wickets giving 47 runs.
Result
Pakistan won by 33 runs.
Man of the
Match
Shadab Khan for his 50 and 3 wickets.
The next ODI is scheduled to be played on October 18th
(16:00 PST)
